The National Agency for Petroleum, Gas, and Biofuels (ANPG) and the National Fuel Company of Angola (Sonangol) have signed a Strategic Cooperation Protocol aimed at boosting the development of the biofuels value chain in Luanda, Angola.
The agreement, signed by the Chairmen of the Boards of Directors of ANPG, Paulino Jerónimo, and Sonangol, Sebastião Martins, establishes the basis for conducting feasibility studies, creating a regulatory framework, and identifying business opportunities in the sector. The cooperation covers strategic areas such as leveraging national agricultural potential, sustainable biomass production, scientific research, training national personnel, technology transfer, and attracting private investment.
On that occasion, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of ANPG emphasised the economic and social dimension of the initiative, highlighting that, by stimulating national biomass production and the creation of structured supply chains, the project could significantly contribute to the development of agribusiness, job creation, the enhancement of local content, and the emergence of new business opportunities in Angola.
The event was witnessed by the Minister of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas, Diamantino Azevedo, who called for the practical implementation of the commitments made. The minister stressed that the country has been debating the development of biofuels, renewable energies and biorefineries for some time, arguing that the time has come to "talk less and do more, transforming ideas and projects into concrete results".
Diamantino Azevedo also highlighted that the approval of the Biofuels Strategy represents an opportunity to reinforce the consistency and stability of the sector's development framework in the country.
